One In the Morning
· poetry
A songbird sings alone
An eerily joyous sound to hear
The mockingbird mocks the night
In rebellious cheer
He takes advantage of the stage
His aria the only one in the area
But yet, as if to heckle
A peacock interjects a lone caw
Meeyah—Meeyah—Meeyah—Meeyah
Reaching past the constant hum of tedium and stress
To find pleasure and amusement and joy
You need to listen for it
You need to grab every opportunity
Like this mockingbird,
sometimes with unconventional ways
At inappropriate times
