· poetry

Particles of matter amidst earth and sand

Bits of the universe sift through my hand

The rich smell of loam adrift in the air

Stirring the memory of when I was there

There in the garden on a Spring day

Essence of lifegiving leaves in decay

Songbirds bring sensory sounds to the scene

As we plant her new flowers of yellow and green

The dew on the grass and buds on the trees

Add life to the scent of the air on the breeze

The sun warms my skin as it rises some more

Dispelling my revery of those days of yore

Each moment a gift tied to moments before

That adds to the others kept there in my store

My mind brings them forth when I need them the most

To bring me to her when I need to feel close
