Coronado Beach

· poetry

My shadow casts my next move

My footprints write my history

Repeating itself

Proudly written by the victor

Humbly left to be erased by the sea

These stories are mine to read and write

Told over and over again

at a slightly different pace

In a lightly different light

I politely veer through royal terns

Or yield to a kid on a mission

My face warmed by a distant hot orb

Bare feet grounded to this cool one

Sun flecks the swash that gilds the crown

As the sea boldly whispers the world to shush

Kelp wracks the beach like doffed dresses

As my feet feel the seas caresses

Hotel Del slips proudly by

A diving pelican catches my eye

This sand and surf are my balm

While the sea breeze brings me calm

I live here…..

Oh, I almost forgot

I owe this mermaid thirty-five cents

Can someone break a sanddollar?
